Mask City (2017)
Like the earlier piece Bunka, these two small drawings are meant to explore the neon-drenched, asocial, capitalist empire that is modern Tokyo. The surgical masks are an immensely interesting social phenomenon, used for influenza, allergies, and discouraging social interaction. The aesthetics are a contradiction, for the masks are both alluring and off-putting at the same time.
